Sia Ahmad, one of Australia’s most prolific and respected experimental artists, returns this August with ‘skating on the way’ - a taste from her fourth record under the Shoeb Ahmad moniker.
Conceived in the same rush of creativity that brought Ahmad’s revered “quiver” to life, ‘skating on the way’ represents the meeting point between that record’s warm production and the dark, textural approach of her previous record A Body Full Of Tears.
Featuring live instrumental contributions from Peter Kossen, Luke Keanan-Brown and Maria Moles, the track sees Ahmad’s characteristic clattering beats and woozy harmonics evolve into a terrain of alternating gentleness and sharpness, balanced just so to invite you in while still providing an edge of contrast against Ahmad’s delicate vocal performance.
‘skating on the way’ is accompanied by a dark techno remix from Liars' Angus Andrew, who says of his interpretation: “Sia's work skates bravely between experimentalism and song, between the intimate and detached. I wanted to celebrate this fearlessness with an anthem to resilience - revelling in failure rather than lamenting it.”
